Light Hearted Therapy directly resulted from my life's experiences with therapy and with a hard teacher called Parkinson's, which, ironically, brought me to living with more joy. I worked as a counselor before I was diagnosed. I worked in a homeless shelter as a substance abuse and trauma counselor for a county agency and I also worked in my own private practice. I had a license; an LSATP (licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner) with a certification in EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is known mostly as an effective trauma therapy. I got interested in EMDR after a beloved family member developed serious mental health issues. It helped me, so I learned how to do provide it for others. I got Lyme's disease, then Parkinson’s, and now "disability." I got so incapacitated in early 2013 that I landed in the hospital due to exaccerbation of Parkinson's. I couldn't hardly even get out of bed and had to be transferred on a stretcher when I went to the hospital. I now usually spend a lot of time exercising, meditating, and resting, but now I can get around very well when my meds work, and even be creative. I can no longer multi-task, but am getting much better at being present.
I let go of my license in 2015. I would love to be able to work again, but my priorities have changed. It's more important to me to be a human being than a human doing. My passion lies in other areas mostly creative activities and honing my intuition. I still aim to do healing work. This disease taught me much more than my training and experience as a therapist. I've known for some time that each person is his or her own best therapist.
I thank everyone (including angels and multidimensional beings) who infected me with the spark of truth and inspired me to keep up on this bumpy road. I was gratefully influenced by Yogi Bhajan and feel fortunate to have studied directly with him. My husband and I have been married for 33 years, a true miracle, and I thank him for going the distance with me.
